Western Cape 1

Anna’s friend Kasey, who is in the travel industry in the USA had to do a work trip to the Western Cape Province, so of course Anna and I ‘volunteered’ to help her out by travelling with her.  Therefore last Thu the three of us flew down to George, where we hired a car and leisurely made our way to Sedgefield, stopping at a few places on the way.  Thu and Fri night we stayed with some friends of Anna’s, spending Fri in Mussel Bay and taking a ride on an old ‘power car’ (small train) up into the Outineque (pronounced O-tin-e-kwa) Pass behind George.  Sat we went to the local markets in Sedgefield and then drove into Plettenberg Bay, where we stayed.  Sun we did Oudtshooren (pronounced Oats-warren), Cango Caves and Prince Albert.  The last day we came back to George and flew back to Pretoria.
The differences between Limpopo Province and the Western Cape is pronounced, not just in the obvious environmental differences, but especially in the social differences.  I found the Western Cape to be socially much more like parts of Australia, for example Tasmania or the northern NSW Coast (a nice way of saying a bit alternative in places, and ‘old fashioned’ rural in others).  It has that market culture with both farm produce and crafts, overlayed by strong domestic tourism industry.  I could quite happily live in the area (out of peak season).
As I couldn’t narrow down my ‘sample selection’ of photos, once again I will have to spread them over a few posts (I still have some Kruger NP ones for a later date as well).

This is what you get when you have 3 different nationalities in one house, all trying to charge their computers.  Starting with the South African 'triple adapter', a South African two pin adaptor on the left (yes, they have two different plug systems), the Australian on the right (Australia to South Africa is fairly easy as they are both 240v).  However, Kasey's US computer plug in the middle goes from: US 110v into a converter, into a South African two pin, then through a South African three pin adaptor!

Victoria Bay in the Western Cape.

Kasey and Anna at Victoria Bay.

The view of Buffalo Bay from our lunch venue on day 1.  Nice view but the food wasn't very good.

Knysna (pronounced nighs-nar) Heads.

The view of the sun going down while having 'Sundowners' at the beach in Sedgefield with Anna's friends.
